While working with the Columbia Missourian, I worked as the sports photo editor. This included overseeing all communication with sports editors and writers, collaborating on longford and daily coverage, and brainstorming photo content to combine with stories like these. This is part of a four part series on the continually high numbers for high school football in the city, opposite of national trends. Once part of the package focused on high numbers despite injury and after about an hour of discussion and brainstorming with the sports editor and writer, we developed this long form idea. We focused in on a local athlete who was hurt playing football but continued to practice, travel and train with the team in hopes of returning in collegiate play. Moving forward, I worked with photographer Julia Hansen to develop the story over about six shoots and ultimately to design this final print package.
