Millions of sports fans live with disabilities that aren't apparent on first interaction. They experience games and stadiums in unique ways and with their own set of challenges and celebrations. This project dives into fan experiences and how stadiums and leagues can better support their often "Invisible" fans. I worked closely with the designer to create a visual presentation plan combining audio, video and photo driven reporting all in a singular web presentation. I hired photojournalist Ryan Young to bring this vision to life and produced four different media days with each of our fans, each including roughly 15 journalists and crew members.
Facing centuries of limited community roles and access to sports, Las Amazonas de Yaxunah, a women's softball team located in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, added a new title to their names in recent years: softball players.
After a feature-length documentary film was created by the ESPN Deportes team, I worked with our digital project team to convert and repurpose content made for the documentary into a custom, web-based story introducing key members of the team and their stories on and off the field. I worked with film editors and producers to identify storylines and footage beyond the documentary to create a character-based slideshow format featuring short video clips that I fully edited for both desktop and mobile devices. I found and collaborated with external teams to complete final color and sound design and worked closely with designers and project managers to organize and layout the final story that was published both in Spanish and English.
As Alexander Ovechkin joins the elite 800-goal club, we break down the highlights, numbers and moments along his journey -- and what comes next. I completed all archival video and photo research for this custom project and worked alongside the designer, data journalist, video producer and full team to create this custom website recognizing Alexander Ovechkin's record moment. I edited final versions for videos tucked in the chapter pop-outs. This project was a Sports Emmy nominee.
Hinchliffe stadium for decades served as a hub for prep and professional sports, concerts, circuses, car races and so much more in Patterson, New Jersey. After falling into disrepair, community members have joined together to rebuild and reestablish the stadium as a school and community staple. I worked directly with local organizations and museums, schools, and alumni and community members to gather a diverse range of imagery, including rarely seen photographs of Negro Leagues baseball star Larry Doby during his high school years playing football in the stadium courtesy of a school alumni's family archives. I also helped work with photojournalist Russell Frederick to report and create original photography content.
Celebrating a combination of memorable moments and leading story lines, I researched and edited the year-end look back on 2021's best moments in sports. I focused on aligning the biggest moments with the best visuals, including original photography.
Alyssa Thompson is the first ever National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) player to be drafted No. 1 during her senior year of high school.
I worked closely with reporter Charlotte Gibson, photojournalist Michelle Groskopf, Alyssa's coaches and her family to create an original photo package for web and social and this original video which I personally edited that was used online, on social media and in select tv programming.
MMA fighter Jake Paul took the ring with a style new to both him and the sport of MMA fighting - custom LED shorts.
I commissioned visual team Nancy Hernandez and Lamar Carter to create both still photographs and this original video which I helped conceptualize and plan for both web and social media.
